Ouray Backcountry Ice Climbs

Long before the Ouray Ice Park was created, the rugged winter landscape of the San Juans was a training and testing ground for the emerging sport of ice climbing. Clint has been leading guests up these long ice routes since 2001. They are the excellent next step in progression to put all the fundamentals learned in the Ouray Ice Park to work on a bigger multi-pitch route. Gaining efficiency on these types of climbs are not only extremely fun, but also serve as valuable training for alpine climbing in the greater ranges. If you want to go to Alaska for technical routes, putting some time in Ouray will be a requirement. I only work with dedicated climbers looking to advance their ability and test their skills.
